16 and Pregnant vs. Pregnant over 35

Just had to get this out…
So I’ve been watching 16 and Pregnant on MTV. It’s my standard dose of reality TV done in a more tasteful short doc format. Not like the complete trash “reality” shows / competitions that accompany it on MTV.

Watching no episode in particular, I got a generally negative tone from the show. It portrays teen pregnancies in a negative light. There has also been a ton of publicity on how some people believe the show promotes teen pregnancy. Now I’m not here to say that getting pregnant at 16 is a fantastic idea, I just think it’s a lot better than getting pregnant after 35.
I currently have a 3 year old daughter, and yes, I would be super pissed if she got knocked up in her teens. Also, I’m all about waiting for marriage. I’ve just seen a growing trend of post college graduates staying in a perpetual state of childhood and a growing trend of waiting until the “right time” to have kids. Sometimes the right time for the body is not necessarily the right time financially. So what’s more important?
Along with the boomeranger and late pregnancy trends, we’ve also seen rise in disorders like autism.

Here are some stats:
Studies show that the risk of miscarriage (loss of a pregnancy before 20 weeks gestation) is 12% to 15% for women in their 20s and rises to about 25% for women at age 40. The increased incidence of chromosomal abnormalities contributes to this increased risk of miscarriage in older women.
The traditional age at which a woman is considered to be at high risk for chromosomal abnormalities is 35. Approximately 1 in 1,400 babies born from women in their 20′s have Down syndrome; it increases to about 1 in 100 babies born with Down syndrome from women in their 40s.

and here’s a great write up on teen pregnancy.

ABC Oddity

Lets follow my iPhone tutorial with an app review.
Well this isn’t exactly a review… I just wanted to rave about my daughter’s favorite app ABC Oddity.  She can’t get enough of it.

This app is great if your kid is getting unruly in a restaurant or mall.  It calms them down and brings them right in.  I do get a little nervous watching her shake my phone but she hasn’t dropped it yet.  She has on the other hand really started to make all the letter connections I would hope for.

This app was created by Autofuss.
What is Autofuss?

Did that answer the question?

SOTW The Tallest Man On Earth “Honey Won’t You Let Me In”

It’s been a long time coming… My daughter tipped me off when she started requesting to hear “The Blizzard’s Never Seen The Desert Sands”.
I recorded this video of her singing along in my car. This was also the first video I recorded on my iphone using Cycorder.

It’s hard to pick just one song from the album cause they are all so good, and I usually listen to the album in it’s entirety…  but this is one of my faves.

Fatburger and Better Burgers

I was super excited to find out a Fatbuger was opening up in my Costco’s shopping center.  It was a long wait watching other stores going up around it and driving by the empty store every Saturday.  But then, out of nowhere… they were open.  So my wife and I went to try the famous Fatburger.

The inside was way more cookie cutter than I expected.  But I should have known since it’s next to a Stride Rite and in the same shopping center as a Costco and Best Buy.

I was ready for a FATBURGER, so I decided to go with a double kingburger.

Due to an ordering snafu, I only had meat and cheese.  But, that is one of the best ways to get a feel for a place’s burger so I dug in.
Lets start with the fries… just not good at all!
And now the burger… It was alot to handle, but in the end I thought that it had too much seasoning and not enough natural burger flavor.
Over all my experience was unsatisfactory to say the least, and I was left wondering, why do people like these burgers???
So I decided to give Fatbuger another try.

A few days later, I went back for the Fatbuger with all the fixings and chili.  This time despite the greasy patty exterior,  the inside of the patty was all dry.  So that is that.  I do not like Fatbuger at all.  And I love burgers hard!

I would much rather go to a Five Guys any day.  They are without a doubt my favorite fast burger.

I’m no burger connoisseur, like some out there, but I do enjoy a tasty burger and my whole family loves burger night.  We’ve perfected our recipe to now include onions and Gorgonzola in the patty instead of adding them on top.

The Gorgonzola melts through the entire burger filling it with flavor.

Even my 2 year old loves the way they turn out.

Here is the final product:

Black Friday

It’s Thanksgiving time again and that means Black Friday!  So I ate some pumpkin pie and prepared for my favorite shopping day of the year.  My pre game strategy always comes from Black Friday ad scans weeks before but I always end up spending midnight pining over the various deals and mapping out my game plain of what stores I intend to hit.

This year I started at Best Buy @ 5AM (as always) and then we moved on to Target, Walmart, and Costco, with a break in the middle for the golden arches.    I didn’t have any big-ticket items this year so I did the bulk of my shopping at Target and it was a MAD HOUSE!  I’m used to the huge crowds at Best Buy but this year Target was the place to be.

This year I couldn’t have done it alone!  Thank God I had my sister and her fiancé to hold the cart.

While Todd manned my cart with my son’s Lego set …

I went out with free arms to wrestle a Soccer Mom for one of the last pink Little Tykes Digital Cameras.

And yes my little girl will not have a blue camera this Christmas.

All and all it was a great time.  It seamed like most people bought up the cheap flat screen TVs this year but I had no need, room, or money for any more televisions.
