My First Tattoo

It’s been a long time coming but about a month ago I finally did it. I went to Marks of the Spark Tattoos in Frederick, MD and got the logo of one of my favorite movies put on my calf forever.

Battle Royale Tattoo

Yes, Battle Royale is now permanently a part of me.

I love my tattoo in every way. As long as Battle Royale never has a crappy American remake…

For the design I took a screen grab of the logo and combined it with a scan of the logo from the DVD creating this simplified version.

My tattoo artist Alfie did a fantastic job and his shop had an incredibly professional and hygienic atmosphere. Even though the 3+hrs of dull pain started to get to me, all in all it was a great life experience.

This Hulk Tat of Alfie’s is one of my favorites.

The Best Christmas Present Ever

I got the idea for this present after looking at Michael DiMotta’s website.  Micheal is a fellow MICA student who creates some amazing illustrations.  As our children grow up my wife constantly recounts her childhood years looking for similarities.  She always described herself dancing in her room so I decided to commission a portrait of her doing just that.

I started this process by rounding up some photos from my mother-in-law and sending them over to Micheal.

He then sent back a rough sketch

and then the final line work

with only a few minor edits along the way we had the final

I received the final digitally so I sent it to severn graphics for printing.  I had them print a Durst Lambda with a matte finish that they mounted on gator board.  After I framed the art I had to wait untill Christmas…

Obama Art

I’ve been real interested / obsessed with all of the independent art created for the Obama campaign. It all started when I saw this image on the side of a building in D.C.

Then is wasn’t until I saw the same image up close in San Francisco that I noticed who created the image.  The poster was created by Ray Noland who launched his own unofficial campaign for Obama.
GoTellMama! aka Go Tell Mama I’m for Obama

After buying a poster and a T-Shirt I wondered what else was out there…. Was anyone else doing this?
I then found a ton of art for Obama and this great blog The Obama Art Report.

Since then I’ve collected a bunch of free posters I plan on printing myself and I purchased this print.

Check out some official Obama art at Artists for Obama on Barack’s official site.
