Calvaire “The Ordeal”

The other night my wife made the mistake of telling me that she was willing to watch any movie with me… Even a horror movie!  So I racked my brain for a movie that she has never seen, has a slow build up and would keep her awake.  I decided to pick Calvaire one of the most horrific and disturbing films I’ve ever seen that was also a good movie.  I knew if I could keep her awake for the first 15 minutes she couldn’t fall asleep if she wanted.  I feel like saying anything else about the movie might spoil the experience so if you haven’t seen it don’t read anymore don’t watch the trailer just watch the film! The movie is now an instant watch on Netflix.

Thinking back I could comment on the role of the female in this movie or the way performers are perceived and sometimes coveted… but who cares?  These elements helped the story but I’d rather just immerse myself in the demented torment this film delivers.  Oh and some of the shots especially at the end are just gorgeous.

SOTW “Ptickfork’s 100 Best Tracks of ‘08″

I realize this isn’t a song but this past week we’ve been playing though the top tracks in the office.  Here are some of my favorite songs from the list that I didn’t listen to this year.

Song #16: The Mae Shi “Run to Your Grave”

I would suggest listening to this track with the next song on the album “Kingdom Come” an 11 minute masterpiece.

Song #15: Amadou and Mariam “Sabali”

and the #1 Song: Hercules and Love Affair “Blind”

V.I.P. with a side of Chili

We rolled V.I.P. last Saturday at the 9:30 club…  The night started with some free appetizers and Budweiser drinks in the downstairs bar.  I thought I disliked Bud Light but I was wrong I hate it!

Then we moved upstairs to the V.I.P. viewing area.

CSS the headliner gave a great performance and under normal circumstances I would have been content with their show… but these were not normal circumstances.  Ssion was the opening performance and CSS paled in comparison.  Ssion gave one of the best performances I’ve seen in a long time.  All the elements were working together video, dancing, set, sound, and passion.  Even after watching CSS people still left the club singing “gee whiz street jizz.”

I was too busy taking it all in to get a pic so I found this one on their myspace.

Sadly I don’t think their recorded tracks do the performed songs justice but here is one anyway.

If you get a chance you must see them perform!  You know you’re in the presence of artistic genius when you hear “Step by step oooo Christmas, gonna be your Santa Claus”  To the tune of New Kids on the Block.

We topped the night off with some chili cheese fries at Ben’s Chili Bowl.

9:30 Club CSS Office Party Winner!

Last week I saw an Email saying:

With the economy in shambles, your Scrooge-of-a-boss’ idea of a holiday party most likely involves a cobweb-covered fruitcake left in the office kitchen. Fear not: 9:30 Club and electro-pop Brazilians CSS are here to save the holidays for you and 29 of your coworkers. First, you’ll start off with a private happy hour with free drinks from Budweiser and a sampling of 9:30 menu items. After that, you’ll head to a private VIP viewing area for CSS’s off-the-wall indie rock antics.
Want to win? Simply send a YouTube video link to list_serve@930.com telling us why your office needs this party. Keep the videos funny, but clean, and under one minute. Deadline is Tuesday, December 16 by 7pm. The winning video will be posted in next week’s email blast.

So Caleb and I decided to make a music video with our plea.

And today’s Email blast from the 9:30 club had this.

Yes it does say James Kavata… but we still won!

Kanye on SNL

Not a big Kanye fan but this performance was amazing!
His energy coupled with the video backdrop was just silly.
The particles with the silhouette… WOW!

SOTW Far och Son “Panik” (Phatzoo Remix)

So I’m going to start posting a song that’s ruling my life each week…
“The Song of the Week”
Sorry for the redundancy with this one but it’s not exactly the same song as below.
I will give you a dollar if you can listen to this in front of me and not move.

CRANK IT!

Still deciding which is better… the song or the video.

Netflix Supports MACs!

Netflix now allows you to watch movies instantly with a MAC!  Also Netlix now has a TV box allowing subscribers to watch movies instantly on their TVs with a one time $100 purchase.

But if you have a TV that has a VGA connection or the right cables… you can do this:

The image of the streaming video was amazing! It blew my mind!

The biggest setback was the selection… It was fun for a weekend but I’m going to wait for a larger selection before I purchase the TV box or hookup the laptop again.

Black Friday

It’s Thanksgiving time again and that means Black Friday!  So I ate some pumpkin pie and prepared for my favorite shopping day of the year.  My pre game strategy always comes from Black Friday ad scans weeks before but I always end up spending midnight pining over the various deals and mapping out my game plain of what stores I intend to hit.

This year I started at Best Buy @ 5AM (as always) and then we moved on to Target, Walmart, and Costco, with a break in the middle for the golden arches.    I didn’t have any big-ticket items this year so I did the bulk of my shopping at Target and it was a MAD HOUSE!  I’m used to the huge crowds at Best Buy but this year Target was the place to be.

This year I couldn’t have done it alone!  Thank God I had my sister and her fiancé to hold the cart.

While Todd manned my cart with my son’s Lego set …

I went out with free arms to wrestle a Soccer Mom for one of the last pink Little Tykes Digital Cameras.

And yes my little girl will not have a blue camera this Christmas.

All and all it was a great time.  It seamed like most people bought up the cheap flat screen TVs this year but I had no need, room, or money for any more televisions.
